Early 20th Century Japanese Boro Mosquito Netting (5) Decorative as it allowed air flowThis beautiful piece of fabric originated in Japan in the 1920s. It is a Kaya which is a mosquito net. It would have been used predominantly in the summer to keep mosquitos and small bugs away. It was hand woven from hemp fibres and has been green dyed. The weaving left tiny spaces which allowed wind to pass through, but prevented bugs and mosquitos. This specific netting has many patches with a variety of patterns and shades of blue, making it the
