They are hand painted earrings which have been carefully vitreous enamelled to around 800 degrees. They are cast in fine silver and as this is pure silver, it is very tarnish resistant. Then the enamel has been carefully fired inside the acorn. Enamel does not fade in colour, ever! The handmade hooks are sterling silver as it is stronger
