デビューシングル「oath sign」以来となる日本レコード協会によるゴールドディスク認定を受けたLiSA15枚目のシングル。LiSAにとっても大きなターニングポイントとなった本作の表題曲はTVアニメ『鬼滅の刃』OP主題歌になっており、LiSA作詞によるこの曲はテレビサイズとフルサイズで歌詞が異なっている。作品の主人公である竈門炭治郎の心情に寄り添うように、またLiSAにとって自分の心情を込めるように、ダブルで紡がれた言葉の重みに愛を感じる楽曲になっている。表題曲に注目されがちな本作だが、ライブでは盛り上がること必至のカップリング曲M-(2)、UNISON SQUARE GARDENの田淵智也による作詞作曲のM-(3)と充実の1枚になっている
