Juxtaposed against the 1996 Haut-Batailley I find more energy in this

backward and brooding nose reluctantly gives up hints of very earthy dark pinot fruit nuanced by a distinct animale hint that merges into broad-shouldered flavors that offer excellent volume and concentration that finishes with just a hint of dryness and plenty of minerality

With a few minutes of air pretty aromas of complex and cool red pinot fruit

boysenberry lavender pastille and spicecake flavors that are sharpened by a hint of white pepper on the back half

Of course I paid a lot of attention to their wines and I tasted with Laura Catena and winemaker Alejandro Vigil both in Madrid and Mendoza
